Photo #3

The photo today is from my archives of the Fortune Ranch roundup in the Badlands of South Dakota a couple or so years ago. I like this one for its painterly, slightly surreal feel, a result of ‘dragging the shutter’ with a long exposure, around a quarter second, I think. You’ve probably seen it before. (It’s got some flaws, which someday I will fix, and I wish like hell I hadn’t clipped the horseman’s hat.)

I thought that since I’m posting a photo every day (this will soon break down, I suspect) I might as well add something to it, however spare. Often it will be an alert of some sort, as it is today. And often, as today, the alert will be via some sort of online news source. Rhetorically speaking, how else would I get news of the world outside my little desert niche? So, whatever I say, I might be repeating a lie. Forewarned kind of thing. If you come across evidence contrary to this or any alert, please let us know in the comments. Make sure to provide evidence or at least a source. Bald assertions are not welcome.

I have about a dozen news sources and, as you know, Tucker Carlson is one of them. Last night he quoted Biden saying that there would be a food shortage (because of the ‘war’ in Ukraine); he also apparently said that measures would be taken to hasten the coming food shortages. (‘Apparently’ said this, because he didn’t play a tape.) He backed this up by showing various Big Food processing plants and the like burning down, along with the observation that in some areas hens are no longer laying eggs, probably due to a chemical in their food. If all this is true it’s a sign that a really serious food shortage is coming to your neighborhood and maybe soon. (I have several big tins of dried eggs.)

Even aside from this and the many and diverse portends that a true catastrophe is in the offing, (for about the hundredth time) I urge you to have enough non-perishable food (etc.) on hand for several months. If it’s not a politically induced food shortage, we are due for another Carrington-type event (and so forth). If you are not self sufficient for many months on your own with no electricity, then, frankly, you are a fool. (If you have children, then you are exponentially more of a fool.)

That’s cute how Mathis misspelled your name. He must have been real tough in middle school.

I liked the photo. Beautiful colors. To me, he dragging shutter effect made the scene look like bunch of cherubs bouncing around in the clouds.

We started on our “Zombie Ecopolypse” redoubt 3 years ago. Everything in place except for well purification; we live on a marsh, well water’s too saline.

You will need excessive amounts of lead around in many areas.
