Halloween on Sand Mountain

Last night, long exposure… the dune hill is 600 feet high… (click to enlarge)

Hey, sorry for the long silence. I’ve been offline at a Halloween lunacy at Sand Mountain, Nevada, where I got some of my best landscape images, bar none. The dunes at sundown are unreal in their transitions from light to shadow. I have so many beauts that I can’t make up my mind which are Selects. Color, accentuated or not, or black and white, they are all amazing.

I ran across the Halloween Festival completely by accident and immediately ran into a cool guy (Angelo) who spirited me all over with his ATV and I was breathless with the variations in light and shadow. I’ll make a slide show and post it on Youtube. Give me a few days.

I have so many beauts like this I can’t decide… this isn’t the best!

I’m on ‘The Loneliest Road in America’ (sic) headed for ‘The Rough Ride of Route 93’ (article title from a 1992 issue of National Geographic). There were a couple dishonest photos in the article, which I’m writing about in my book. One of them is an interior of a brothel at Ely (Nevada) and my present mission is to find that brothel and prove that the photo is manipulated, which Nat Geo claims it never does.

This may sound ridiculous (especially since I’m not into prostitutes) but it’s the way I am. Dishonesty on any level…. etc. Plus it should be fun.

Love the flags. I could do a slide show just on the flags!

I’m really working hard on this book; if you haven’t heard, the title is The Art of the Boondock; A Photographic Journey. Another and no doubt my last memoir. Photo-driven! I’ve written 30,000 words so far and will be excerpting from my other two memoirs, chunks that I have good or really good photos to go with.

Angelo, my ride.

And yes, a lot of stuff happening on the world stage. One thing: I don’t know how this Musk/Twitter thing is going to play out, given that Musk is a fraud from the ground up. Something really odd is definitely afoot with that.

I’m parked at a place called Cold Springs, off Hwy 50, still The Loneliest Road, although I’ve had all kinds of fun so far. Have to get back on the road to the Ely brothel so I have to make this short.

More to come and if you want to blab in comments I’d love to hear what you think of this Musk/Twitter extravaganza.

The Halloween parade last night. Scary babe…

Allan

By the way, if you are curious about the origins of ‘Halloween’, Randall Carlson does a great job here.

Part of the history of it is that we are about to cross the Taurid meteor stream, which usually gives us a cool show but a big one exploded in 1908 over Tunguska, Russia and raised some hell for a lot of trees.

    Glad you are OK Allan.
Your new pictures of the dunes are Fantastic!!!
I KNOW, every cool picture in every magazine, or book or paper in the world – if you were behind the camera at the same place & scene, – you would have done an even better and finer picture! – Definitely.

Awesome pics Allan. What other pic or pics do you believe are manipilated in the Route 93 article? I picked up a copy on ebay for a buck and see one photo of the Big 4 bar/brothel of two people at the bar, one bartender and one woman’s silhouette in the doorway.

Given that article was almost 30 years ago, it might be hard to find the original interior and proof you seek.

Looking forward to your next post.

Yeah, that was the photo, the one with the silhouette in the doorway; that didn’t look right, like it was pasted in somehow. I’ll write about it in the book but I got the same shot (after 30 years the place looked the same but there was only one girl and she ‘didn’t want no pitchers!’ and with the door open to the outside, it IS blown out like in the pic.

I suspect Musk is a fake front for corporate power. He’s part of the ‘false light’ dialectic being pushed at the moment along with people like Trump. You’ve got your fake good guys and you’ve got your fake bad guys. And that’s all you’ve got. Two piles of crap to tread in…..a bit like an election…..

Musk is a fraud and is not our friend. Tesla is a government subsidized joke. Space X is Fake X. Neuralink (getting into our brains) is extremely disturbing. Musk dressed up for Halloween in a Baphomet costume with an upside-down cross. He says he wants to make Twitter like China’s WeChat, which would make it into a surveillance nightmare…If you’re into the Beatles and Paul is Dead, check out the Sage of Quay (Mike Williams) on YouTube. He says that Paul//Faul can see only through his left eye….About Halloween: https://www.sootoday.com/rooted/origin-of-phrase-trick-or-treat-in-print-traced-to-the-sault-6033664

Your pics are delightful. Mind you, just got back from a trip so I am super tired, but Randal Carlson’s calming, sonorous voice almost put me into a coma. I need to bookmark that talk whenever I can’t sleep.

Anxious to read and view your new book. I am sure it will be amazingly intriguing. I think Elon Musk is in way over his head. He is a dilettante, by and large, and may end up causing it to crash and burn, not unlike My Space.

On a completely different topic, we went to a wedding in Portland, OR. I spent a lot of time there in the early 90s and as recent as 10 years ago and it was a lovely place. Holy crap has that city gone to hell! It’s like a dystopian nightmare come to life. Not exaggerating in the least. Homeless camps everywhere. Buildings destroyed from the rioting still boarded up. Addicts sleeping in doorways, building fires on sidewalks, shooting up, many, many super aggressive assumptive-closing beggars. They get angry when you don’t come across, not only with change but serious cash. At night it’s anarchy on the streets. The fear on the streets was palpable.

All this is caused by the District Attorney and the Public Defender’s office. They don’t have enough public defenders to defend the accused, so the don’t prosecute, those that the cops arrest are simply free to go. So cops stop enforcing the laws. It’s a negative death spiral for the community. People load up carts at Target with TVs, food, booze or camping gear and then just walk out. Security guards are forbidden from engaging. Local CVS had barely anything on its shelves, because it was all stolen. Super sad to witness. Just thought I would share.

Jeez, Portland… glad I went by it. I recall it really cool way back when. A real sign of the times…

Damn! I double check my last comment…flunky ortography, should blame it on my recent health issue but I almost recovered.

One thing about Portland…it got gentrified as much as Berlin and what you’ve witnessed it may be the logical outcome. Could it be in your opinion?

Musk is one of those cloudy multibillionares normally getting to the point where they just lose contact with what they are doing. People like Musk are delusional in my opinion, delusions of grandeur. He is where he is not because of his talent – doubt he’s has any – nope, he is very goood at fooling others just like Gates, Jobs and so on. They are just men and not that clever. Problem is the vast majority deal with a lack of proper grey matter.

I knew Sheldrake would have recognised the value of your “Waking up Gus”…well done Allan!

Looking forward to see you debunking Nat Geo regarding the Ely brothel.

Got another email from Rupert Sheldrake this morning. He wants to dig in to my ‘Waking up Gus’ phenom and has some suggestions for new video studies. I will keep you guys informed.

Allan, looking forward to the new book. And your photos are amazing!!! Also I really enjoy your stories of your life on the road. Thanks.

Thanks to you and Jeremy. Aside from the photos I am writing quite a bit about photography and this rubber tramp life I’m living. Bear with me tho, as it’s hard to work on the book and the blog simultaneously, altho I plan on excerpting some of the book stuff here.

Enjoy all your writing and insights. Very excited for The Art of the Boondock; A Photographic Journey. Your photos capture a beauty I seldom see from others.

    Be well.

Musk? Who knows? The Band sums it up best in “Life Is A Carnival”

“Life is a Carnival, beleive it or not
Life is a Carnival, give it your best shot”

BTW, will get started on Sheldrake’s fungal book this week.
